To See the World Through the Eyes of a Child
Don’t tell anyone but I tend to see the world through the eyes of a child.
Visual clarity of an unbiased and vivid colorful world, not limited to black and white.
Innocent unfiltered eyes where all feelings are enjoyed in equal.
Eyes influenced by an innocent mind where imagination runs wild.
When children close their eyes for sleep, they dream of distant lands, where mountains reach the sky and waterfalls dominate the landscape.
Children see the best in people and see sadness and pain you keep from others.
With every new experience, with every new location, my vision is pure and unfiltered.
Should I be embarrassed to be child-like in my enjoyment, to be able to separate the politics and poverty of my destination and focus on its beauty and uniqueness?
I want to see life with excitement, anticipation, newness, and with wonderment.
Let’s keep it between us but I see the world through the eyes of a child.
How’s your vision?

Thanks, I think most travelers feel this way, we just don’t realize we’re doing it

Yes, I can relate because I feel the same, particularly in nature. I spent years introducing urban kids to the outdoors professionally. I still remember a fifth-grader who touched the needles on a small redwood tree after arriving at our site. In all seriousness and innocently, he asked: “Are these plants real?” Such a life-changing experience, and not that far off from my own childhood, http://woodswomanwrites.com/2014/04/22/earth-day-reflections-finding-nature-in-an-urban-childhood/
It sounds like this was similar to your childhood, too. Thanks for this eloquent post.

We had similar childhoods in that we weren’t able to explore. Now, that child – like anticipation and excitement still exists as I travel.

I know the feeling. When I get out into a wild place I want to be everywhere at once and see all that there is in detail. The eagerness to see what’s ahead drives me on mile after mile of trail, and yet I’m continually distracted by every little plant and bug I see along the way. It’s a wonderfully relaxing state to be in.
