The Lucky Traveler
.
I’m often told that I’m lucky to be able to travel which makes me resent that term to describe my travels.
I plan and sacrifice in order to see the world, to collect experiences.
Traveling is not luck but my will to live a less ordinary life, to make my dreams come true.
Luck happens when you plan for success, creating the opportunity and higher probability.
Therefore, I plan to be lucky.
*
I associate luck with an uncontrolled result, one in a million odds, an uncommon occurrence.
Luck is winning the lottery.
Luck is surviving a plane crash.
Luck is being seated in an empty row on a long flight home.
Luck is being thrown from a horse and coming out unharmed.
Luck is swimming and having penguins and young sea lions invite you to play.

.
Luck is going out for a dog sled ride and ending up sledding with the Iditarod winning team.

.
Luck is jumping into the water and having a turtle waiting for you to create one of my favorite photos.

.
I reiterate:
Traveling isn’t luck but my will to live a less ordinary life, to make my dreams come true.
Luck happens when you plan for success, creating the opportunity and higher probability.
Therefore, I plan to be lucky.

Do you agree with my definition of luck?

The word “luck” has always driven us crazy as well. When our kids were just infants, people used to tell us that we were so “lucky” that they slept well and were well behaved. What they didnt know was that there was little luck involved – yes, we were very blessed to have healthy children, but they slept well and behaved well because of all the work we put in! I believe that we make our own luck in life. Your have worked hard to have the life you have, and you deserve it 🙂 Wishing you the best on your journey!

people misuse the word because it hides the fact they are unwilling to put in the hard work and sacrifice that we do, it’s easier for them to deal with their lack of commitment by using this word

You are right ,we make our own luck. Not like Juan Tamad waiting for luck ( that for Pinoy , if you don’t know ask your parent about Juan Tamad )

I didn’t know who that was and can you believe it, there is a Wikipedia page. Juan was really lazy.

It’s also so sad that people consider traveling to be a lucky thing. What has our society become …

Yea, I understand. Fortunate is a better word, maybe. Of course not everyone has the ability to travel (maybe taking care of a loved one, or I’ll/disabled yourself), but far too many people just have excuses for not making it happen and are not willing to make sacrifices like working long hours, saving up and saying “no” to expensive outings at home, or they have too expensive a standard to meet when traveling and don’t know how to appreciate traveling simply. But you’re making it happen and that’s wonderful! Pura Vida, Couple a Wanderers

love this! I have had people tell me that traveling is for the privileged and I totally took offense to that. It is luck and it is a blessing to be able to live this certain lifestyle, but it may not be easy and defiantly isn’t for everyone! Im new to blogging and just created my travel blog, i’d love if you could check it out and leave some feedback!! Thanks 🙂

You’re off to a great start. I love the fact that you share your personal experience.
I would use a photo for your header to draw visitors in as we are visual people. Keep your tags to a minimum or it will get too convoluted for WordPress and won’t show up on any category and don’t use such defined tags such as “blended tequila”. It’s different from Instagram (I just joined, I’m so behind in the times). The broad tags will work better like “travel”, which more people will visit, and you would be a big hit in the “beauty” tab which is mostly women.
Once you develop a direction for your blog, I would work on the categories to help people browse through your site. Also, use your best photo as your featured image as this will draw people in. Other bloggers are your key to build your blog visits before you’re found on any Google search. I would recommend joining Blogging 101, you can pickup some tips and communicate with other new bloggers and potential followers.
Hope this helps.
Have fun blogging and good luck in Cabo!

They say that “Luck Is What Happens When Preparation Meets Opportunity” 🙂 So yes, you sound like a “lucky”, prepared traveller, who grabs the best opportunities along the way. Kudos!

I totally agree! I traveled SE Asia, Oz & NZ by myself a few years back. The trip cost a lot obviously as travelling for 6 months without working does.. but everyone kept saying how lucky I was to go! Not luck – I worked my butt off and saved the money so that I could go!! Hehe nice post your travels are inspiring.

Too true.. I’ve often been bothered when friends who told me ‘I’m so lucky’, for having things happen that in fact would not have been that way if I didn’t steer my life there.
Good on you! Beautiful pics by the way 🙂

I like the look of your site. Your lucky, the two of you are beautiful enough to be your own models 🙂 .
I did notice you don’t allow comments, is that by design? This would allow people to interact with you and develop a following, just a suggestion.

One of the most interesting and plausible definition of Luck that I once heard is “when opportunity meets preparation” ………… You plan tirelessly to create your own opportunities and therefore you have been creating your own Luck! Interesting post.
